Chiropractic Adjustment in San Diego
A chiropractic adjustment is a hands-on approach commonly used to address joint motion and movement-related complaints. At ELATE Chiropractic & Sports Medicine in North Park, San Diego, it is a 30-minute session built for athletes and active adults who already know what their body needs — a reset between training blocks, a check-in after a long flight, or relief when stiffness is affecting training or day-to-day movement.
30 minutes. $95.
What to expect
Your session is one-on-one with Dr. Ashley Aguero, DC. She looks at how the joint is moving, applies the adjustment where it is needed, and gives you movement recommendations to continue working on between visits. No long intake. No upsell.
If you are new to the clinic, or carrying pain you have not had assessed, the New Patient Visit is the better starting point. It includes a full history and a movement assessment that a 30-minute adjustment on its own does not.
Who it's for
Lifters, runners, CrossFitters, and active adults across North Park, South Park, University Heights, and Normal Heights who train regularly and want support staying active between sessions. If you are managing a specific injury, start with the New Patient Visit so we can assess it properly first.
How it fits with the rest of your care
An adjustment is one tool. The approach at ELATE is figuring out what's contributing to the problem and then choosing the tool that fits — sometimes that is an adjustment, sometimes soft tissue work, sometimes both. If you want soft tissue work in the same visit, the Full Performance Reset combines a chiropractic adjustment, sports myofascial work, and Normatec recovery in one 90-minute appointment.
What an adjustment actually involves
An adjustment is a controlled movement applied to a specific joint. Dr. Ashley Aguero, DC positions the joint, applies a quick and shallow force, and the joint moves through a range it was not moving through on its own. Many people hear a pop. The sound is generally attributed to gas within the joint fluid. It is not bone cracking, and it is not a measure of whether the adjustment worked.
Some people feel looser immediately. Some feel mildly sore for a day, the way you might after an unfamiliar workout. Both are ordinary.
What we check before adjusting
Not everyone gets adjusted. Before anything happens, Dr. Ashley Aguero, DC screens for reasons not to — recent fracture or significant trauma, symptoms that suggest something outside the scope of chiropractic care, or a presentation that would be better served by a physician. If that is what we find, we say so and point you in the right direction.
If you are new to ELATE and have not had your complaint assessed, this screening is one of the reasons the New Patient Visit exists. Thirty minutes is enough time to treat something known. It is not enough time to properly work out what is going on for the first time.
Where adjustments fit for athletes
Athletes tend to arrive with the same handful of complaints: a mid-back that will not extend under a barbell, a stiff neck after a week at a desk and a week of pressing, a hip that feels blocked at depth. An adjustment addresses joint motion at those segments. It does not replace strength work, and it does not correct a training error.
That is the honest framing. If the reason your back is stiff every Monday is that your Sunday volume is too high, an adjustment will help you feel better on Tuesday and the pattern will return the following week. We would rather tell you that at the first visit. If you are weighing a sports chiropractor against a general chiropractor, we cover the difference on the blog.
How often people come in
There is no set schedule at ELATE. Some athletes book a 30-minute adjustment every few weeks through a heavy training block. Some come in twice in a month around a competition and then not again until the next cycle. Some come once.
We do not sell long care plans up front and we do not ask you to prepay for visits you may not need. If you want a block of visits at a lower per-visit rate, the 3-session and 5-session Sports Chiro Packs ($570 and $900) exist for that, but they are optional.
