IASTM Scraping in San Diego

IASTM — instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, often called scraping — is a soft tissue technique we use at ELATE in North Park, San Diego. A smooth-edged tool is drawn across the skin and is commonly used for training-related stiffness and the sensation of tightness in the shoulders, hips, and legs.

What to expect

As the tool moves across the skin, it provides feedback on areas that may be more sensitive and helps guide where treatment is focused. Scraping can leave temporary redness that fades over a day or so. As with the rest of our soft tissue work, we pair it with movement work based on your presentation, training demands, and goals.

Scraping vs. cupping vs. manual release

Scraping, cupping, and manual release are different tools for the same goal: addressing the stiffness and tightness that come with hard training. We choose between them based on what's contributing to the problem that day, rather than running the same protocol on everyone.

Who it helps

Lifters, runners, CrossFitters, and active adults across North Park and greater San Diego dealing with training-related tightness or recovering between sessions. New to ELATE or managing a specific injury? Start with the New Patient Visit so we can assess it properly.
